Donna Germain (LCSW, SLP) is a psychotherapist who holds a masters degree in clinical social work as well as a masters degree in speech-language pathology. Because of this dual background, Donna has developed, over many years, a powerful and unique therapeutic approach informed by her deep knowledge of the bi-directional influence of language skills and one's ability to identify and communicate emotions with oneself and others. She understands the power and nuance of how we use language, both verbal and non-verbal, to regulate emotions within ourselves and in our relationships. Emotions and language impact one another. Sometimes our ability to manage our emotions is stronger than our ability to use language to understand and express ourselves and our needs in the world. Donna is in a unique position to help you not only manage your emotions, but also help you to learn how your feelings can guide you. She will work with you to feel a sense of freedom of emotional expression as you process and share emotional states to feel better and improve your relationship to others.
Donna is certified in Polyvagal Theory and is certified to provide the following listening therapy modalities: Safe and Sound Protocol, Integrated Listening System, and Rest and Restore Protocol. These protocols, while not stand alone treatments, have been found to provide 'background' support in the following areas of (but not limited to): emotional regulation, depression, anxiety, insomnia, pain management, social skills, learning disabilities, auditory processing and attention. Where appropriate, listening therapy can be done at home with close monitoring and communication with the treating therapist.
Donna has been working with individuals, adults, young adults, children and parents for over 30 years. Donna uses a variety of techniques including psychotherapy, coaching, insight oriented therapy, play therapy and developmental guidance. Donna’s expertise in infant, toddler and early childhood development has led to frequent invitations to consult with doctors, families and schools on a broad range of developmental and behavioral concerns. This includes, but is not limited to sleep, eating, colic, tantrums, social and emotional difficulties and learning/language disorders.
Donna maintains a private practice at Manhattan’s Columbus Circle. She lives in New York City with her husband, two children and beloved chocolate Labradoodle.
Todd Germain (LCSW, OTR) is a psychotherapist who brings over 30 years of experience to his work with children, teens, parents, and adults. Todd is on the faculty of the William Alanson White Institute in New York City. He has served as Director of their Parent Center and supervises students as well. He has also been an Adjunct Faculty member and has taught clinical coursework at Fordham University.
