Parent guidance is a therapeutic parenting approach where we will work with you without directly treating your child or adolescent. In this way, we can see if changing the parenting approach alone can positively impact your child or adolescent’s behavior. We understand that nervous systems impact nervous systems and oftentimes we can make important positive changes by investing in time for parenting therapy.
Whether or not your child’s difficulties are school or home/community related, observations of your child in their natural environment can provide vital information about how your child is functioning in his or her social and emotional world. We will work closely with educators and other therapists or doctors to insure a better understanding of how to help your child thrive.
Through a variety of methods including talk, somatic activities and developmentally based play, we will help your child to develop effective tools and strategies to improve coping skills, self-regulation, flexibility, emotional resilience and grit. Play is a neural exercise that helps regulate the nervous system and build social connection. Our primary goal is to help your child feel comfortable, establish trust and a therapeutic alliance - from this place important positive changes blossom.
We will help your older child or adolescent with this cutting edge treatment adapted from Jon Kabat-Zinn’s highly acclaimed program Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. We will utilize our many years of experience implementing these techniques with children and adolescents.
Teenagers need to feel a sense of trust and safety when participating in psychotherapy. Our first priority is making your teenager feel comfortable and understood. Working with teenagers requires a deep connection, thorough understanding and an honest appreciation of their world. Sessions with teenagers are dynamic, most teens report being uncomfortable with traditional psychotherapy which places the burden of 'talking' on them. Our work with teens places comfort first - we will never leave your teen hanging in silence, we employ an interpersonal approach that involves a more dydactic technique.
Psychotherapy for individuals starts where you are. Whether you have immediate concerns you want to address or you want to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships - we are here to help you along your journey. With training in allied professions we are able to apply a unique lens to understanding our clients. We are holistic, considering sensory profiles, sleep, diet, and lifestyle along with individual differences to help you meet your goals, achieve understanding, and improve your mental health.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music.
As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration, and resilience.
The SSP involves listening to specially filtered (or gated) music through headphones alongside a provider in person or remotely. Suitable for children (from 2 yrs) , and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individulas with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences andmore.
The ILS is a listening therapy that improves brain and body function by combining music and movement, harnessing the power of neuroplasticity.
Specially treated music, delivered through air and bone conduction headphones, provides sensory input to the brain and body. The listener then receives additional sensory and motor input for body organization by engaging in a wide range of movement activities that are customizable for all levels and ages.
The ILS is based on the fact that we can change our brain at any age. Similar to building strength and endurance with physical exercise, we are able to build neurological pathways and synaptic activity through specific and repeated stimulation, a concept known as neuroplasticity that is the foundation of the science behind the ILS.
The Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) is a new advancement in listening therapies, designed to support healing, restoration and homeostasis. It is used primarily to promote deep relaxation, recovery, balance in the body and mind, and connection to self, cultivating interoception and self-regulation.
Developed by Stephen Porges and Anthony Gorry, the RRP uses endogenous biological rhythms embedded in unique musical themes. The Rest and Restore Protocol provides a tool to signal the healing functions of the autonomic nervous system to gently move into biobehavioral states of calmness and relaxation. The RRP is a Sonocea Enhanced product.
